What you see in the videos is just the first harvest. Hundreds of cucumbers are picked after only six weeks from transplanting. Cucumbers should be harvested as soon as they are ready. Timely harvesting promotes continuous fruit development and leads to significantly higher yields over the course of the crop cycle.
This setup uses four aeroponic towers. Each tower is 2.5 meters tall (8.2 feet), includes 11 planting sections, and is designed to hold up to 44 plants. However, cucumbers produce an extensive root system, so we plant only one cucumber per section. To improve airflow and avoid root overgrowth into the reservoir, we skip the bottom section entirely. This results in 10 plants per tower, with a total of 40 cucumber plants across the four towers used in the setup.

The galvanized grow cage surrounding the towers features detachable steel cables, which simplify maintenance and daily plant care. Skipping the bottom planting level not only protects the reservoir from root intrusion but also improves overall air circulation around the plants.
In this crop cycle, we used the following cucumber varieties:
- Marketmore – A classic slicing cucumber with dark green skin, mild flavor, and strong disease resistance.
- Unagi – A glossy, spineless variety with a crisp bite and high yields.
- Sashimi – A Japanese cultivar that stays crunchy at all sizes and resists powdery mildew.
- Salt & Pepper – A white pickling cucumber that naturally ripens to a yellow tone.

We recommend using a single variety per tower. Mixing cultivars can lead to uneven growth and competition between root systems. Some varieties are more sensitive to mildew and other diseases, while others produce much denser roots. Keeping one variety per tower improves consistency, plant health, and overall yield.
