Cucumis melo var. flexuosus, the Indian snake cucumber, is an intriguing cucumber variety famous for its long, snake-like shape. Its home is in India and the cities nearby, and it prefers warm weather. It is a staple in Indian cuisine, blending into many traditional dishes. Though not well known in the West, the snake cucumber is a staple ingredient in India.

The Indian Snake Cucumber differs from regular cucumbers in that it is a member of the melon family rather than the gourd family. This gives it a unique flavor profile.

This vegetable is especially appropriate for sustainable agriculture. It uses little water, and it withstands the common pests and diseases that trouble many crops. Thriving, Indian Snake cucumbers reach 30 to 40 inches (75 cm to 1 m).

It is easy to grow Indian Snake Cucumbers on aeroponic towers. They like full sun and favor a trellis where they can exhibit their climbing, vine-like nature. They reward you with a delicious, crunchy, cool cucumber that might be over a foot long and shaped like an undulating snake. If you pick the cucumbers on an ongoing basis, the vines will keep on producing as long as summer temperatures rise and fall and as long as sunshine persists.

The crop yield of Snake Cucumbers is impressive, and we do advise growing this original crop whether using a Tower Garden home, a Tower Garden flex, or the commercial grade aeroponic towers used in a Tower Farm.
