Setting Up a Vertical Farm in Jamaica: 100 Aeroponic Towers in the Heart of Kingston
We’re excited to share our latest vertical farm using aeroponic towers, set up right in the center of Kingston, Jamaica! This vertical farm features 100 aeroponic towers, each optimized to grow fresh produce with minimal resources. Our team worked closely with local partners to set up and train their staff, making it possible to manage this aeroponic vertical farm with efficiency and ease.
Hands-On Training and Setup for Aeroponic Towers
Growing Peppers, Green Onions, and Aromatic Herbs on Aeroponic Towers:
This aeroponic vertical farm will primarily cultivate peppers, green onions, and aromatic herbs like basil. With each aeroponic tower able to grow up to 52 plants, this setup is ideal for high-yield crops within a compact space, maximizing the potential of vertical farming.
Automated Irrigation System for Efficient Aeroponic Farming:
To enhance efficiency, we installed an automated irrigation system connected to a centralized gravity-fed tank. This tank supplies nutrient-rich water to each aeroponic tower as needed, regulated by floater valves. This system ensures that every plant in the aeroponic vertical farm receives essential minerals and trace elements, supporting steady and healthy growth without the need for manual intervention.
Transplanting Jamaican Staples: Scotch Bonnet Peppers, Green Onions, and More:
Once the setup was complete, we transplanted seedlings onto the aeroponic towers, focusing on local Jamaican crops like Scotch bonnet peppers and green onions—key ingredients in the popular Jamaican dish, jerk chicken. We also included bok choy and basil, with each aeroponic tower capable of holding up to 52 basil plants, significantly boosting productivity.
